The owner and artist of My Wildest Dreams Studio on herself, her art and how she made her Wildest Dreams come true:
How did you start with Stained Glass?
My husband & I have date nights every month or so & try things we have never tried before. A friend was taking a stained glass class for a few weeks & asked if we wanted to try it with her. The first time I scored a piece of glass & it broke the way I wanted to something clicked & I was hooked! Within a year I was addicted & had a VERY expensive hobby. I loved all of the amazing textures & hues of glass. I loved how I could bring a piece to life based on the glass I chose.
Where does the inspiration for your art come from?
As I continued creating I began to see inspiration for my art all around me. My husband & I are avid divers so that is where the Paua & Nautilus shell theme is derived from. I was always attracted to the The Fibonacci Sequence in nature & the Nautilus shell is such a beautiful example of it. It is the perfection we see in nature. It is the inspiration for the name of the Nature's Glory series. The Fibonacci Sequence is the series of numbers:0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, ...The next number is found by adding up the two numbers before it. It has been used by artist & architects for as long as these fields have existed.
How did you start My Wildest Dreams Studio?
A friend suggested that I enter a juried art show locally & I was accepted. And so it began... I started the business part time in 2009. In 2011 I left my job of 13 years as an executive recruiter & entered my business full time. In 2012 I was approached at a Sugarloaf show & asked if I had considered wholesaling. So I started wholesaling in 2013. It has been an exciting journey so far!! My Wildest Dreams Studio's Nature's Glory series is now being featured in over 50 shops & galleries across the USA & in Canada. This is beyond MY WILDEST DREAMS!!
